The IE University Application, Step by Step
Applying to IE University is a seven-step process spread across a few months. Here's what each step involves, what admissions is actually looking for, and where most applicants leave points on the table.

Create your IE account & pick a programme
Register on the IE application portal, choose your degree (single or dual), and select the intake round you're targeting. Earlier rounds = better odds and more scholarship money.

IE prefers a 1-page CV that shows impact, not a résumé of every activity. Focus on 2–3 areas of sustained commitment with measurable outcomes.

Record your KIRA video assessment
Short recorded answers with no retakes. IE evaluates communication, self-awareness, and quick thinking. Practice matters more than polish.

Take the IE admissions test
Online, timed, adaptive. Covers numerical, verbal, and abstract reasoning. Do practice questions before your real attempt.

Interview with an admissions officer
A ~30-minute conversation. They're checking motivation, fit, and communication. Have specific reasons for choosing IE — programme, clubs, Madrid — not generic praise.

Receive your decision & scholarship offer
Decisions land 2–4 weeks after your interview. Automatic scholarships come with the offer; competitive scholarships are applied for after.
Rounds and timing
IE uses rolling admissions: apply anytime, get evaluated on a per-round basis. Rounds typically close every 6–8 weeks between September and June.
- Early rounds (Sep–Nov): best odds, most scholarship funding, less pressure.
- Regular rounds (Dec–Mar): larger applicant pool, still solid odds.
- Late rounds (Apr–Jun): harder — some programmes fill up.
Where applicants lose points
Generic essay. Writing about "leadership" instead of one specific moment.
List-of-activities CV. No sense of depth, impact, or ownership.
Over-rehearsed KIRA. Sounds like a template. IE can tell.
Weak "why IE." "International reputation" is not a reason.
Late round + missing docs. Rushed applications lose scholarship money.
